Scabies, isn't it scary?
No need to panic, meow lovers, it's a sign that the meow has scabies disease.
The question arises what is scabies? Isn't it dangerous? How to treat it?? blah blah, and so on.
Straight to..
Scabies is a disease that often attacks cats. This disease is caused by a parasitic mite ( Sarcoptes scabiei ). The characteristics of cats infected with scabies at first often scratch the scratch on the head. Then starting from the ears, patches of dead and bald crusts appear. If left unchecked, it will spread all over the cat's face. Sometimes we misunderstand between scabies and ringworm.
How to distinguish the two diseases?
The difference is that if the scabies is located on the edge of the ear, we gently scrape it off, then the dead skin that looks like dandruff is lifted up to cause blisters.
How to deal with scabies:
1. Because this disease is contagious, it is immediately possible to separate cats with symptoms of scabies.
2. Bathe the cat with shampoo or soap that contains sulfur, then dip it with 2-3% sulfur liquid. Rinse and soak the sick cat's body for 10-15 minutes. Repeat this method 2-3 times with an interval of one week until healed. Bathing and dipping sulfur is done every seven days until healed. It takes at least 6-8 baths until the disease is cured.
3. Before being treated, the wound is smeared first with 70% alcohol. Alcohol can kill the mites that cause the disease.
4. Grease the cat with an ointment containing Permethrin 5%, Gamexane (gamma Benzene Hexachloride) 1%, or derma tech. This drug is effective and safe to use in scabies management therapy. Permethrin 5% cream can be applied once for 12 hours or sulfur 5% – 6% in petrolatum is applied every night for 3 nights. The cat will continue to have itching. for several weeks after treatment. Triamcolone 0.1% cream can be used to treat dermatitis.
5. The natural way can use VCO ( Virgin Coconut Oil ). This oil is applied to the affected area of scabies. Very effective and very very safe, especially for pregnant, lactating cats and kittens. You can also use PROPOLIS, the way to use it is the same and it's equally safe.
6. Then the most effective way is to give anti-scabies injections. The drug that is injected is an avermectin class of drugs, such as ivermectin, doramectin or lambectin. Injections were performed twice with an interval of two weeks. This injection should also be done on other cats if there are several cats in the house. Although the other cats did not get the disease. If the other cat is not given the injection, there is a chance of reinfection from the other untreated cat, leading to a never-ending cure. Leave it all to the vet.
Although there are many ways of treatment, it is better to do prevention so that the cat does not contract scabies. That is by keeping our cat's cage clean and diligently cleaning the feces. And don't forget to groming regularly so that our cat is clean and fragrant.
